Reading Festival Chorus

Our Conductor - Janet Lincé

Janet is one of the leading choral directors in the UK. She has performed widely in London, the South-East and the Midlands and has also worked in Belgium, Germany and New Zealand conducting both choirs and orchestras. As well as being conductor of Reading Festival Chorus she is also Musical Director of Choros and, together with Sarah Tenant-Flowers, Co-Director of Encoro. She is an active member of the Association of Choral Directors and aims to help young conductors gain experience in choral training.

Janet is a skilled interpreter of music of all periods, and is particularly keen to help singers and concert-goers appreciate less well-known works and the best of contemporary music. Having worked as a professional singer, she has first-hand experience of music from the early Renaissance to contemporary works. Janet has a particular interest in the period instrument performance of the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries. However, her repertoire also includes the major oratorios such as Brahms's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah and Vaughan Williams's A Sea Symphony, and less well-known works such as Holst's Choral Fantasia, Janacek's OtĨenàs and newly commissioned works.

As a guest chorusmaster with the BBC Symphony Chorus, the Philharmonia Chorus and the London Symphony Chorus, Janet has worked for conductors such as Andrew Davis, Richard Hickox, Yakov Kreizberg, Kurt Masur and Mikhail Pletnev. Since 2001 she has been chorusmaster for the highly acclaimed Newbury Spring Festival Chorus which has performed under Richard Hickox, John Lubbock, Alexander Lazarev, Paul Daniel and Roy Goodman. Janet conducts regular choral workshops throughout the UK and has also toured New Zealand several times, having now established close links with numerous choirs and conductors.
