JOINING US

Singing is good for you! Come and join Reading Festival Chorus (currently 80 or so singers) in rehearsing and performing diverse and beautiful choral music. Expert and sympathetic musical direction means we achieve high standards. Auditions are required – after a few weeks – but are not scary! (see Audition Procedure). Practice CDs are usually available for anyone whose sight reading is shaky. Get in touch via Contact Us and bring some weekly joy into your life.

Below are comments from a recent recruit and a long-standing member on their experience of being part of Reading Festival Chorus!
"I joined the RFC over a year ago and have loved every minute. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming. It's absolutely magical to get to know pieces of music by singing with others. Greg has chosen a gorgeous repertoire for us to sing and is a brilliant director." - Jessica H

"I have been a member of RFC for more years than I care to remember (38?), apart from short 'baby breaks'. I have always enjoyed my singing and have gained such a lot from being a member, both musically and socially. There have been many highlights, including visits to Dusseldorf and singing in some great venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Sheldonian and Arundel Cathedral as well as concerts with John Lill, Yehudi Menuhin and Tasmin Little." - Jane Clements

We ask for an annual fee to meet our running costs and we have flexible rates depending on your circumstances. All sheet music is sourced by our librarian. Copies can be hired, or occasionally have to be bought.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals with the Reading Festival Chorus are both fun and challenging.

We rehearse on Monday evenings from September to June/July with breaks over Christmas, Easter as well as the summer, in the town centre at Wesley Church, Queens Road, Reading, RG1 4BW. There is some free parking at the church. For those wishing to travel by public transport, take route 17, 63 or 64. The stop for eastward travel is outside the Huntley and Palmers building and westwards at Eldon Road. Timetables can be found on the Reading Buses website.

Rehearsals start at 7.30pm and finish at 9.30pm. Members should be prepared to put in extra work between rehearsals to ensure a good standard of performance. The calendar of rehearsal and concert dates is available in the Members' area.
